I believe this issue only occurs if you have Favorite Forums enabled and no favorite forums saved.

Correct, this has been fixed. The update was slipped into the current release and no update notification has been sent.
If this is affecting you, just download the extension again from the download page or wait until v1.7.5 is pushed up.
